Oh Santorini, you're so beautiful! If you've read my post about the must-see places on this stunning Greek island, you'll know.
I'm sure there are tons of options for accommodation and food, but I can only tell you about my own experiences and recommend the places I tried out myself. 'Cos that's how I roll.
Here's the map of all the awesome places mentioned below:
I booked an apartment with Athina Villas near Perivolos beach. And when I say "near", I mean that it was a 5-minute walk to the beach. Score.
The apartment can house up to 2 people, but I had it all to myself. Even considering that, I thought it was very reasonably priced! Not like sometimes, when hotels charge single occupancy fees... I guess it was more of a studio than an apartment, and as such, maybe it would have been kind of cramped if someone else was staying with me. This way, it was pretty much perfect.
The place was super clean when I got there, and the owner had stocked a bottle of mineral water in the fridge for me. There was working air conditioning and a TV, which is always a plus! Towels were provided for free. There was another apartment above the one I stayed in, but I think Athina Villa have different set-ups in different buildings.
You had to turn on the electric boiler before showering, but if you did 10 minutes before, you wouldn't run out of hot water. Which is also always a plus! The cleaner came every morning and re-did my bed, and towels changed every 2 days.
All in all, I had a very pleasant experience!

Food & Drinks
(Meet Me) Coralli (Perivolos Beach)
This is where I went the first evening after I arrived on Santorini. It was just a few minutes walk away from my accommodation, and it had been recommended to me by the taxi driver who had driven me to the apartment. And what a recommendation!
I ordered a whole white sea bream as a main since that was the fresh fish of the day. The waiter filleted it for me at my table (there was still a considerable amount of bones left, but hey, he tried). The fish was delicious! It was grilled to exactly the right degree so that it wasn't dry and came with some grilled veg (although I wouldn't have objected to more, you can never have enough grilled veg, am I right?), and a wedge of lemon. To accompany the meal, I ordered a nice cocktail (I don't remember which one, you'll just have to try them all)!
The White Sea Bream from my first dinner on #santoriniisland 🐠 The waiter filleted it for me, which was great because I'm really bad with fish bones...One day I might actually die from suffocating on one, I swear!😆 . . . . . . . . . #eatingfood #foodstory #fishbones #filleting #seabream #wholefish #yumyum #nommy # #deliciousness #tasty #thira #foodblogger #travelblog #travelersnotebook #wow #service #greatstuff #eatwell #healthy #freshfood
Then, the waiter suggested a chocolate brownie for dessert. And what a brownie it was! The chocolate sauce was spilling over, and it was accompanied by a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream. Be still, my sweet tooth...
The only fault I can find with this place is that the prices were quite hefty. I mean, I know it's a touristy area, but still... I paid around 35 euros for all of this, and that was a little bit painful for me.
Nevertheless, if you're looking for quality seafood and a romantic atmosphere right at the beach, this is the place for you!
Bloom Design & Deli (Fira)
I was looking for a place to brunch because I hadn't eaten at all that morning, so I got sick of walking and just chose the first place I came across.
This cafe looks quite nice from the outside, they have a cute terrace in the front. I have to say though, I was a bit disappointed in the food. The waiter suggested I try the scrambled eggs with bacon, and that's what I did, but it was just kind of average. Don't get me wrong, it was perfectly edible and fine, just nothing special. I think I was just expecting more.
The brunch menu came with a glass of fresh orange juice and a coffee, and those were quite good. However, the whole thing was, again, quite pricey. Guess you can't escape that in a tourist hotspot.
This little restaurant and bar is where I settled to watch the sunset in Oia. They don't have a fully direct view of it from the rooftop terrace, but it's good enough to trade in for the hordes of tourists trampling you in the other place.
I had a cocktail from the extensive menu, and chilled there for about 2 hours. Let me just say that this was the place where I encountered the friendliest staff out of all the places I visited on the island. They offered to take photos of me with the sunset, they were very attentive, they served me free snacks with my cocktail, and offered me a blanket as it got cooler during the evening. I felt like a princess! And all of that for just ordering a cocktail. Amazing.
I didn't have any food here, but I saw some as it went past me to the other tables, and it looked (and smelled) lovely.
Fratzeskos Fish Tavern (Perissa)
Second fresh grilled fish! I loved that you could go up to the fish counter and choose your own fish to eat. I was recommended the pike because apparently, it has comparatively fewer bones, and I'm bad with fish bones. It's a real life-threatening hazard for me. Kidding, it's really not that bad.
Missing the awesomely fresh seafood I had in #santorini 🐟 this was the first time I had Pike, I actually enjoyed it very much! I'll be posting some more of the yummy food I had there, and there will be a blog post soon, so keep an eye out🐠 . . . . . . . . . #santorini #foodblogger #fish #greekislands #greece💙 #yummyfood #nom #eat #deliciousness #seafood #freshfish #yummyfood #vacationmode #takemeback #comingsoon #islandtravel #yum #tastesgreat
The fish was excellent! I think grilled fish is the main selling point of Santorini when it comes to food. Rarely have I tasted such flavourful fish in my whole life.
One of the best things about this tavern is that they gave me (and all the other guests) free dessert in the form of watermelon and other melon slices. Delicious!
Safran (Perivolos Beach)
Let me tell you right away: this one is expensive. But, it's a real treat! The price is justified, trust me, so much so that I went twice...
The first time, I got the salmon fillet with celery mash. It was really tender and lovely. I also got addicted to their strawberry juice, I don't really know why. I got the fruit salad as a dessert, and nothing could've prepared me for the huge bowl of fruit that I received. There was: peach, banana, pineapple, watermelon, and grapes. I sat at it for an hour.
The second time, I ordered the salmon ceviche as a starter and the meatballs with fries as a main. Ok, so those aren't really meatballs in the sense that we know them. They're more like sausages. Just warning you. Nevertheless, they were very tasty. I would say that I ordered a bit too much food though because I wasn't able to finish the meatballs. They came with fries AND pita bread, so if you order it, be prepared.
Overall, I think Safran is worth a visit if you want to treat yourself to an upscale, romantic, beachside meal.
That's it! I hope you liked my suggestions for accommodation and food on Santorini!
