Check out Janelle, a beauty blogger with a super positive outlook on life:) Get to know her and her bubbly personality better in this interview! She describes herself as a "life loving loony", which I can definitely relate to.
About Janelle and her Blog
- When did you start blogging and why?
In all honesty, I started my blog in an attempt to distract myself from the long wait that comes with applying for countless summer internships. I’ve always loved writing and I’ve always been a bit of a closet (until now) beauty enthusiast, and what better platform than a blog where I can write about topics that I love? There’s nothing quite like indulging in a long-standing passion of yours whilst being involved in such a lovely online community and putting a smile on people’s faces whilst you’re at it. Starting my blog was definitely one of my better whims, methinks.
- What topics does your blog cover?
I like to call it beauty with a large dollop of wellbeing and philosophy. These have always been some of my favourite topics to talk about and to write about, so being able to combine all three in one space is pretty great.
My blog doesn’t tend to have a heavy focus on products, which is something that reflects me as a person – I believe that it doesn’t have to be all about that consumer culture of getting your hands on the latest blush that everyone else is raving about this time. It’s much more fun coming up with cheats and tricks to make your existing products work for you. Unless you’re allergic to them, of course.
- What 3 words best describe you?
Life loving loony.
- Who is the biggest influence in your life right now, and why?
My family. They’ve always been the kind to flood me with tough love, but they’ve taught me to become a stronger person and to see people for who they really are, despite all pretences they show to the world. I would not be here without them (literally) and it goes without saying that they were the first followers of my blog!
- What’s your all-time favourite quote?
“You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.” – We Bought A Zoo, directed by Cameron Crowe
About Janelle's Lifestyle
- How would you describe your lifestyle?
Some call it laziness, but I like to think I’m a pretty efficient person. I’m all about finding the simplest, most effective way of doing things, whether it’s beauty, getting through my to-do list or alcohol consumption – being a lightweight is no laughing matter, people. When I get my hands on a project that I’m passionate about, I can be a bit of a workaholic.
Combine this with my addictive, perfectionist nature and things can go pear shaped pretty fast! That being said, I’m definitely a homebody who loves a good cup of tea and curling up in bed with my laptop after a long day. Recently, I’ve been trying to put time aside for running and regular mini workouts at home. I’ll let you know how that goes.
- How do you define beauty?
I think beauty is something that everyone has. As life goes on, it’s something that blossoms as we grow and learn. This can come in the form of life events, major decisions, sacrifices, celebration – anything that means something to us. Beauty is vastly different for us all – someone who works three jobs to feed their children is beautiful in an entirely different way to someone who made it big as a supermodel by starving themselves, and has now decided to retire from modelling to study nutrition at university. Most of all, beauty is something that cannot be faked. Coming from someone who adores blabbing about makeup, I think that a genuine smile that reaches the eyes is the most precious beauty product you will ever own.
- What are your makeup essentials?
A brown eyeliner pencil, lip balm and concealer. You’ll find these in every bag I own, promise.
- What is your morning routine?
I usually drink a full glass of water as soon as I wake up – hydration is a big thing for me. I wash my face after this, using my favourite Simple face wash. Toner and moisturiser go on next (my skin tends to fluctuate between dry and very oily throughout the day), and then I put my makeup on. I’m a fairly fuss-free person in the mornings, so I like to keep things easy and quick. Oh and I always have breakfast. Can’t go without it.
- What are your favourite 3 songs right now?
Oh goodness, I have so many favourites. As of right now, I’m going to go with Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock, Vienna by Billy Joel and Bohemian Rhapsody by Pentatonix.
