Here’s an interview with Larissa from Life with Larissa! She blogs about travel, and her philosophy is to always be honest with her readers, which I can very much relate to. What an admirable attitude, right? I love her photos, she looks like she’s enjoying life to the absolute maximum:) Enjoy!
About Larissa and her Blog
- When did you start blogging and why?
I officially started my blog back around April of 2016, but it was mostly on and off. I started taking my blog seriously at the beginning of 2017. I was inspired by one of my friends to start this blog to document all my adventures. Although I don’t necessarily travel that often, my friend felt as if I should share my travels. Thus, Life with Larissa was born! Since I’m not a full-time travel blogger, sometimes it’s hard to keep that drive to keep pushing forward on my blog, but when I go back and re-read some posts, it reminds me why I started in the first place. Yes, I want to share my adventures and my travels with others. Yes, if I’m lucky, I hope to inspire others to travel, or even just think about visiting other places. Yes, I want people to see that travelling is fun, and educational. But also, I want to show that travelling brings people together; that travelling helps us understand each other; that travelling has the possibility to change the world for the better. Of course, I didn’t come to these conclusions when I first started my blog, but as I continue to travel, and continue cultivating my blog, I plan on evolving the purpose behind my blog as well.
- What topics does your blog cover (in as much detail as you want)?
Life with Larissa is a travel blog that covers all things related to travel. I share my adventures, my thoughts on travel-related aspects, and I also take the time to share other people’s journeys and travels as well! I provide reviews and guides as well. My goal is to be honest with my readers, while sharing my experiences.
- What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I feel like I haven’t done anything too crazy. One time though, I did accept a ride from a stranger, late at night, in a different country, where I didn’t speak the language. Looking back, it probably wasn’t the smartest idea, but at the time, it seemed like my only option!
- What’s your biggest achievement in life and why are you proud of it?
I have to honestly say this question has never crossed my mind. It’s so daunting to think of what I have “achieved” because I feel like I’m still waiting for it. As of today, I would say my biggest achievement in life was deciding to swim at a university where I knew absolutely no one, and was approximately 6.5 hours away from my house. I’m really proud of that because I’m such an introvert, and I suffer from social anxiety. I was able to thrive and prove to myself that I’m able to push past those boundaries and excel. Not only did I swim all four years, but I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology, and double minored in biology and French.
- What’s your all-time favourite quote?
“People are the prettiest when they talk about something they really love with passion in their eyes.” –k.v.h.
It’s truly a beautiful thing to experience – when someone talks about what they love, regardless if it interests me. I’m always fascinated by the depth of passion the individual has for the subject, and I want them to continue talking and sharing their knowledge. It’s beautiful, and I love it.
- Why do you like to travel?
I love to learn, and travelling is a learning process, no matter where you go, or how many times you do it. I love learning about new cultures. I love seeing new sights. I love meeting new people, and hearing the stories they have to share. I love trying new foods and drinks, and creating memories. When I first started getting serious about my blog, I thought to myself, ‘Why do I love travelling so much?’ and this is what I came up with:
“I fell in love. Not with a single person at one time, but with multiple people at various times. I fell in love with their cultures, their customs, their traditions. I fell in love with the food, the scenery, the landscape. Travel is the one thing that brings it all together; so therefore, I am in love with travel.”
I wrote a post about what travel means to me, if you’d like to read it: http://lifewithlarissa.com/2016/08/03/what-does-travel-mean-to-me/
- What 5 items do you always pack when you travel?
1 . Wallet
2 . Passport [for international travel]
3 . Phone
5 . Chapstick
- What’s the biggest travel mishap that’s ever happened to you?
One time I was an idiot and decided to travel all day, and arrive in a foreign country at night. It was dark, I didn’t speak the language, and I didn’t really know where I was going. I thought it was going to be fine, because the directions I were given seemed pretty straightforward. The first step was getting on the metro. Well, after I got off the train [in Rome, Italy], I headed to the metro only to find it closed. I eventually figured out I had to take a bus to a different bus stop, and get on another bus. I ended up getting off at the wrong stop because the bus driver wouldn’t help me, and I was standing on the side of the road, in the middle of the night, with dogs barking, and I absolutely no idea where I was. That was one of the scariest times in my life, as I honestly thought I was going to have to sleep on the side of the road. Thankfully, someone had gotten off at the same stop as me and heard my muffled tears, and came to my rescue. And this is when I hopped in a car with a stranger, in a foreign country, in the middle of the night. Not all heroes wear capes! Learn from my mistake though: Do not travel to a foreign place at night!
- What’s your favourite mode of transportation, and why?
I would have to say a plane, because it’s usually quick and it can take me many places.
- What is your dream destination and why?
Most people will not believe my dream destinations are inspired by a cartoon character – Spongebob Squarepants! Haha…I know it sounds ridiculous, but for as long as I can remember, I have loved [and still do love] the show. I am an avid watcher, and to this day, keep up with the new episodes. Imagine my excitement when I found out Palestine was creating a real-life replica of the Krusty Krab, and Punta Cana has a Nickelodeon resort with a Pineapple Villa. It would definitely be a dream come true to go to both of these destinations!
